The Hound!

The Adventures of Henry have been a reoccurring subject on this blog.  And in honor of Games of Thrones, I thought I post another one for The Hound.

Henry, aka The Hound

aka - Henry the Rabbit Hunter
side note - rabbits like Lays potato chips apparently.

aka - Henry the Lizard Slayer

and as of last night... aka - Henry the Possum Wrestler

Last night Henry chased and tackled something in the backyard. The something fell over and layed there.  I freaked out, grabbed Henry's collar and hauled him inside. Went back outside thinking I was going to find a dead baby rabbit but found a baby possum! And it was "playing possum"! When I shined the flashlight on him, he perked up, looked around, realized it was just me and not The Hound and ran over to the fence.
He was so cute and tiny!

Lets just hope he doesn't get a hold of the baby owls on our street that are learning to fly.

Happy Mothers Day!

Want to wish all Moms a very Happy Mothers Day!

The day I became a Mom
Best (and scariest) Day Ever. :)

This is what Little Man looked like on MY first Mothers Day.

Our first official "selfie", before it was a thing!

Want to give a special thanks to my Mom, Evelyn, this Mother's Day.  She has ALWAYS been there for me and supported me in whatever I was doing.
When I was a teenager and got a job at the mall, she stopped by the GAP and was my first big sale.
When I worked at the Clinique makeup counter, she stopped by and stocked up on makeup and skin care.
When I moved into my first apartment, she took me shopping for furniture and to the grocery store to stock the fridge.
When I bought my first home, she helped me paint and landscape the whole thing!
She is a doer and I respect the heck out of her for that.  Her can do attitude and ingenuity have inspired me when it comes to DIY stuff around the house.
I love you Mom!

Say Hello to my Little Friend(s)!

Monday morning, at 5:30am, I woke up to what I thought was something crawling in our gutter outside our bedroom window.  I peeked out one and didn't see anything.  Then the other and something was stuck to our window screen.  I was a little freaked out until it turned its head and I saw that it was a baby owl!  An owlet!  My first thought was, "They better not be after my bunnies!" because he was in the side yard which has a small deck under which the rabbits have made their home.

I went outside to check and didn't see it or any dead rabbits so I figured it got loose and flew off.  So I went back in and tried to go back to sleep but kept hearing a weird noise.  Almost like a garbled purr.  I looked out the window again and saw a rabbit.  So I went back outside thinking WTH?!  Rabbits don't make that noise...at least I didn't think so.  When I opened the gate to the side yard, the rabbit was gone but behind the gate against the house was this little guy!  I guess the rabbit was checking on him too.

I wanted to pet him so bad!  But took a pic instead.  I thought about contacting a wildlife rescue group but luckily his mom showed up.  She was up high in a tree on the other side of the fence.  I hoped she could coax him to fly up and over...which she eventually did.  About an hour or so later I heard him in someones yard a few houses down so I hope he finally got the hang of the flying / landing in the tree thing.  Too many bobcats, outdoor cats and coyotes for him to be safe on the ground for too long.

And here is Henry's tormentor.  Little Man thought it was a rabbit that he had named "Scamper" but with all the procreating going on under the deck in our side yard, it could be any number of bunnies that visit our backyard.  This is one cool customer though.  He casually hops around our back patio while Henry bounces off the sliding door..Kill the rabbit! Kill the rabbit!  The rabbit just looks at him with indifference and continues to eat grass. :D

So cute!

On a side note:  I did fish a different (and dead) rabbit out of the pool the morning I found the owlet.  Wonder if the owls chased it and it fell in or just wasn't paying attention to where it was hopping?  :(  Need to find something to leave dipped into the pool for them to use as a ramp to get out.

Quick Visit!

We visited family this past weekend and got an overnight date-night out of the deal. ;)  Here are some pics....

Happy Anniversary!

14 years ago, on May 1st, 2002, my husband and I eloped in Siesta Key, Florida.

05/01/2002

He was there on a business trip and I had tagged along.  Little did I know that he had everything planned for us to get married on the beach!

2 days into the trip, we were looking for shells on the beach at sunset when he called me over to look at one he found.  He was crouched down like he was picking it up but when he turned around he was holding a ring box in his hand.  There was a little light inside that lit up the ring when he opened it.  He asked me to marry him, I said yes and then jumped on him for a hug. :D  Luckily the ring didn't go flying into the ocean!  We immediately called our parents with the good news and I found out that he had called my Dad hours earlier to ask his permission to propose.

2 days later we were married on the beach with lots of onlookers and well wishers.  Such a great day!

The past 14 years have been a roller coaster of fun, loss, change, challenges and love.  We have moved 4  times within 2 states, been through the house building process (that will test ya!), after 3 years of trying to have a baby we had Little Man (now 9yrs old), said good-bye to loved ones who passed away including our 2 cat kids (Katie & Gordon) and welcomed our new dog Henry (now 4). It hasn't always been easy but it has always been worth it.

Looking forward to 14 more years of adventures!

Happy Birthday Henry!

I'm 4 years old!

Several years after losing our 2 beloved cats, Katie & Gordon, we were ready to welcome a new furry family member into our lives.  Little Man is allergic to cats so we needed to find a dog that would be a good fit with our family.  I did one of those online tests that show what breed would be best for your family based on your lifestyle, personalities, etc.  Our results showed that a terrier WAS NOT one of them.  This test did not take mixed breeds into account.  :/

A few years ago, when we lived in Tulsa, OK, I went to a A.R.F. of Tulsa (Animal Rescue Foundation) adoption event with the intent of doing my paperwork so I could volunteer.  I was not going to look at the dogs up for adoption that day.  But there he was.  I saw one of the girls holding him and it was love at first sight. And yes, he is a schnauzer mix.  Yes, a terrier.

Henry's Mom and Dad had been picked up as strays but when they realized the female was pregnant, the shelter called ARF to see if they could help.  ARF took them out of the shelter and kept them at a foster home until she had the litter and they were weaned and ready for adoption.  Mom and Dad were adopted first and they knew the puppies soon would be too.

Once the pups were ready, ARF took pictures and had them listed online and at the PetSmart / ARF of Tulsa adoption event.

I think there were 2 more pups but they were adopted before I could get pictures of them.  Henry was the only boy and the only black pup in the litter.  He's special! :)

Little Man went with me to meet Henry and loved him!  3 days later we took him home.

We entered a doggie contest.
He really didn't win anything since he wouldn't do his tricks (stage fright) so they gave him
a certificate that read, "Blackest Dog". :D

Henry did not find dog clothes amusing.
